Hacia 1990, sus pinturas que a menudo se burlaban de temas religiosos o pol\u00edticos-- se poblaron con aglomeraciones de figuras humanas, usualmente en embarcaciones atiborradas en el mar, en selvas u otros ambientes naturales, a menudo amenazantes. Desde\nprincipios de este siglo, Alfaro expandi\u00f3 su\ncampo art\u00edstico para incluir la producci\u00f3n de obras de video, que lo hicieron merecedor de m\u00faltiples galardones, incluyendo el primer premio en el I Concurso de Videoarte de Am\u00e9rica Latina en Washington, D.C. en 2003. En 1989,\ncon motivo de los problemas pol\u00edticos en su\npa\u00eds, cre\u00f3 memorables obras de de protesta\ncontra la dictadura. En los a\u00f1os noventa,\ndescubri\u00f3 la pr\u00e1ctica de la escultura en vidrio,\nmedio en el que ha alcanzado reconocimiento\npor sus extraordinarias piezas de gran\ntama\u00f1o, usualmente de figuras masculinas,\nanimales salvajes, torsos y cabezas. Desde\n1997, expone con la galer\u00eda Mary-Anne Martin\nFine Art y recientemente, en 2022, fue invitada\na la 58\u00aa Carnegie International, la segunda\nbienal m\u00e1s antigua del mundo. Por m\u00e1s de diez a\u00f1os, colabor\u00f3 con el taller del reconocido maestro Carlos Cruz Diez en la ciudad de Panam\u00e1. Ha presentado m\u00e1s de quince\nexposiciones individuales en Panam\u00e1 y el\nexterior desde 2006. Merel crea pinturas y\nesculturas, tanto peque\u00f1as como de gran\nformato para espacios p\u00fablicos, con diversos\nmateriales desde el lienzo y la madera hasta\nlos pol\u00edmeros sint\u00e9ticos. De Dier estudi\u00f3 Artes Visuales en\nla Universidad de Panam\u00e1. Luego de su\nprimera participaci\u00f3n en una muestra colectiva\nen 2009, y su primera individual en 2014, ha\nexpuesto en una docena de ocasiones en\nPanam\u00e1, Italia y Estados Unidos. En 2022, fue\ninvitada a la prestigiosa 58\u00aa Carnegie\nInternational en Pittsburgh y en 2023, fue\nganadora de la primera residencia art\u00edstica en\nel Museo del Canal Interoce\u00e1nico de
